DId not hold up very well, for some reason ours has started developing nicks in it. Not really working for us to sharpen at this time

Works well until finish wears down. Purchased about 3 years ago and now a majority of the diamond finish has worn smooth making sharpening more difficult. We are not a high volume business, so I expect someone who daily uses will have even more challenges. Will probably select a different sharpener next time.

The Dexter-Russell diamond knife sharpening honing steels is a great addition to any kitchen. Used by lightly placing the near edge of the blade against the base of the steel, then sliding the blade away from yourself along the steel while moving it down and up.
Used the Dexter-Russell 29123 V-Lo 12" Oval Diamond Knife Sharpening Steel with Black Handle to sharpen the Dexter-Russell 29243 V-Lo 8" Chef Knife. Sharpened the blade so easily. Great purchase.
This tool is sufficient for a skilled chef to sharpen his knives. Unfortunately, we are lacking such skills and have since hired a service. To each their own.

This diamond steel has been invaluable for keeping our knives sharp under heavy use. The only thing that has been inconvenient is the lack of a hook at the end of the handle so we can't hang it with the rest of our steels.
