Vollrath 79800 80 Qt. Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl

I screwed up with this purchase. I wanted a really heavy mixing bowl. I thought when Vollrath said heavy, that they meant heavy. i was wrong. This is a fine bowl, but it's not the kind of heavy I was looking for. The Tablecraft H834 is what I wanted. The Tablecraft bowl is nearly twice the weight of this bowl.

after a couple of months of serving salads in these bowls, i noticed a little discoloration on the very bottom of the bowl. almost like rust dots.

Probably the best oversized bowl I have ever used! The 20qt bowl is solidly made, light in weight and easy to clean. The only downside is that due to its size it’s tough finding a spot to place it when not in use!

We purchased almost every size of these Vollrath mixing bowls for our kitchen staff and they like them. The weight is pretty heavy but it definitely helps with denting. We haven't had to throw any away due to denting. The one thing that is different and sometimes difficult to clean is the different surfaces. The inner surface is a matte almost raw stainless and the outside is a #2 polish finish. It would be nice if both surfaces were polished. Other than that, we love these mixing bowls!

Bowls were sturdy and thick, however the finish sucks. The interior is a matte finish and the exterior is shiny. When you stack them they are HARD to remove. This is a total waste of time and a headache when you want to pick up a bowl from a stack. You literally have to pry them apart as they really get stuck. AVOID THEM. The fact that they get stuck to each other is enough of a time waste that no matter how sturdy and thick they are, you will get frustrated using them.

I love these bowls for mixing different slaws and salads together. they are great on the line and hold about 1-2 portions at a time. the metal is also solid and stacks well also.

I purchased the 1.5 Qt and 3 Qt version of this product, per Cooks' Illustrated recommendation, however this bowl had a series of what appeared to be scratches in the inside that I wiped with a towel and look to be deposits of mold.

Great, sturdy bowl. It's my go to for baking spherical cakes. You may need to use another flat layer to join the two and a bit to build up the top but it's a great alternative to wobbly spherical pans.

What can I say, it's a mixing bowl. What you don't get a feel for in the picture is how large this thing is. I use it to mix 5lbs of dry rub seasoning at once and it holds it all. Cleanup is a snap since it's stainless steel.

This is a great mixing bowl. I would highly recommend this bowl for kitchen use, home or professional. The size is perfect for small jobs such as beating eggs or combining spices. The construction of the bowl is of high quality and the rim of the bowl is nicely rounded. The gauge of the metal is sturdy and durable. Lastly, the bowl stacks well with its own size and nests into large mixing bowls for efficient storage.

Nice mixing bowl. We like the inside matte finish and shiny outside finish . It's not as "Heavy Duty" as we expected but it gets the job done. Ours arrived pretty scuffed up.

I bought this Vollrath 16 quart stainless steel bowl to use in my food wagon. My initial reaction to the bowl when I first received it was that it was a little thin and cheap but it turns out it has held up well over the season. I toss my fries, chicken tenders and onion rings around in seasoning in this bowl before i serve them. I am going to buy a second one to do buffalo wings and tenders in. Based on quality, price and functionality I recommend this product.

We absolutely love this bowl! While it might sound large, it is perfect for mixing large batches of various salads, making meatloaf, mixing up salsa, making fruit salad... well, you can go from there. There\'s no end to the usefulness of this bowl. Cleanup is a snap. I highly recommend this bowl... you\'ll wonder how you ever got along without one!

These are surprisingly sturdy bowls. The stainless is relatively thin and appreciably light but it holds up very well. If abused, the bottom and sides will get dinged and misshaped but they've always remained usable. It's more than you could ask for at this price.

I could not imagine cooking without these Volrath economy mixing bowls, and the 0.75 quart size is my favorite. This is a small bowl that I use for mise en place, and you can't have enough of them. Here's why they are great: 1) Stainless steel for sanitary and cleaning purposes 2) Thin and lightweight for easy stacking and handling 3) Shallow slope for easy stirring, scrambling eggs, and fitting tons of them in the dishwasher at the same time 4) Perfect size for mixing sauce ingredients, or prepping chopped ingredients like onions, carrots, celery, leeks, mushrooms, etc.

I got the 3 Qt. bowl for cooking home sized batches of doughs and batters and its the perfect size for that. I really like them, they are the EXACT same size as one another so if they stack they get stuck together so bad but I found just putting a towel between them fixed it completely and my wife thinks it looks cuter anyway.

For years I’ve been using similar-looking winco bowls, which have become indispensable, one of the most-often used tools in my kitchen. Their extremely low weight makes them so easy to use. But I hate that they’re SO thin they flex at the bottom with any pressure, flinging up bowl contents. Serious Eats raved abt these, so I ordered the most useful size (in my home kitchen anyway), the 3 qt, just to see how it compares. Right away I saw that the Vollrath’s steel is thicker, resulting in a slightly heavier bowl, not quite light as air, but nearly. The bottom has no give or flex. I’m glad I didn’t order the heavy duty version - these are more than substantial enough! I’m seeing reviews that these are “thin”, suggesting a poor prognosis for long term use. They are not that thin, but thin enough to feel pleasantly weightless, while also maintaining its material integrity under ordinary force and pressure. A solid value, and one of my new kitchen favorites!
