Welcome to Vollrath University. I’m Chef Rich, and today we’re here to talk to you about the Lettuce King 1. Lettuce King 1 as you see here is primarily for lettuce, also soft vegetables, I want to you to also think of things like fruits; and even things like cooked meats. This is a very versatile machine; it comes in four different blade sizes. We’ve got a 3/16” cut for a very fine shred, 1/4", 3/8”- all the way up to a 3/4" slice, so we get a nice thick cut for something like this melon. When you look at this machine you can see a two-handed operation that’s important because when you’re pulling down on this, you want to have a lot of force to make sure you’re getting through some of the more dense products, like a head of lettuce. Also, notice the wide base- that’s for stability so we can really give it a lot of force and not have to worry about the unit tumbling off the table. Let’s go ahead and show you how this works. I like to cut the head of lettuce in half- that’s one thing I’ll recommend, just to cut it in half it makes slicing a little bit easier, and I’ve got a pretty fine shred on here today. I’ve got the 3/16” cut, so I’m going to take a little bit of force. Notice with two hands. Okay so you see now for the lettuce, this is a 3/16” cut- that’s a pretty fine cut for a nice shred for lettuce. If you’re doing things like the melon or the chicken, I might tend to lean more toward that 3/4” cut, a little bit thicker. The 3/8” and other cuts, 1/4"for maybe softer vegetables, but definitely stick to those thicker slices for things like the cooked chicken and the melons. Bought The lettuce king in early May , used it for the first time this past weekend. Made sure all blades were tight and followed all the instructions before using it and nothing g went right . Bent and broke blades the first head of lettuce . And the pusher head is now all messed up to . We bought it to be more productive and faster in cutting our own lettuce and peppers and this item did not do any of this made it longer and wasteful .

First item arrived with bent blades. Pre-owned maybe? Returned for credit. Second one took less than 2 weeks before we encountered the same problem. I think the blades bend because you have to repeatedly hammer through even the thinnest head of lettuce. This thing will not slice anything thicker than one leaf of iceburg. And even if you did manage to use it for a week without it breaking, it takes an hour to clean this thing! Very frustrating! The brush seems like it would be helpful, but is actually useless. We spray it out and use a knife to get between each groove. Since we found that we couldn't use it productively for lettuce, we tried using it for tomatoes... well it bruises tomatoes so bad that they explode or become a pile of mush immediately.
