If you're choosing an undermount sink, the sink will install underneath the counter, so your cutout size should be about the same as the total, combined dimensions of your sink bowl(s) for a clean look. Regency offers stainless steel in a variety of gauges and types that correspond to different levels of strength and durability. By understanding the gauge and type, you can easily determine what equipment is best for your application.
Regency stainless steel is available in three gauges: 14, 16, and 18. Gauge refers to the thickness of the metal, with the thickest being the lowest number and therefore the strongest. That makes 14 gauge stainless steel thicker than 16 or 18 gauge stainless steel. This also means that 14 gauge is heavy-duty, 16 gauge is standard-duty, and 18 gauge is light-duty.
Types of stainless steel include 304 and 430. Type refers to the chemical make-up of the material. Heavy- and standard-duty products are available in type 304 stainless steel, as it contains both chromium and nickel for corrosion-resistance. Select light-duty products also come in type 304, while the rest are made with type 430 stainless steel. This type contains chromium and no nickel, offering less corrosion-resistance than type 304. 430 stainless steel is also magnetic, which can be a nice added benefit while you're working.
