This knife roll may not be your best choice if you intend of storing common sized Japanese knives like an 8" gyuto, 170mm nakiri and 180mm bunka - you'll quicky find that the metal blade edges WILL contact each other which can be detrimental to your knifes' edges. You can of course use less knives with more spacing in between, but I'd much prefer using a roll that has a "blade in" design vs a "handle in" design and can comfortably accomodate 8 average size knives without any workaround. For this reason I gave it 3 stars. If you have a selection of thinnef profile knives like petty/boning/paring then it would work well. I also considered using sayas or blade protectors but am concerned with the extra bulk/mass and how it'll affect the closing of the roll which utilizes velcro straps.

The case is sturdy and well made with a 8 pockets and a cut resistant flap. Rolls up thin when filled with knives and has a name/address info card slot. The strap is a little thin and cheap feeling but I don't carry this far at all so, no big deal.
