I'm food application scientist, Patty Reyes. In this video, I'll show you the features, advantages, and benefits of the Amana Commercial RMS series.
ACP classifies their ovens by light, medium, and heavy volume. What does that mean? Light volume ovens can be used up to 50 times a day, medium ovens between 50 and 125 times per day, and heavy volume ovens are designed for use up to 200 times a day. The RMS ovens are classified as light volume, which makes them perfect for cafeterias and vending stations. They're simple to use and ideal for retherming pre-cooked foods.
The RMS offers 1000 watts of microwave power and efficiently reheats and defrosts food items. The RMS10D and RMS10T feature stainless steel exteriors and painted interiors. The RMS10TS has a stainless steel cavity and cabinet. Stainless steel is durable and makes cleaning oven surfaces easy. The RMS10D allows quick operation with a 6-minute light-up dial and 100 percent power. Just turn the dial and cook! The RMS cavity accommodates a 12-inch platter. Reheat entire platters of food or small portions with ease. Microwave energy in the RMS series is delivered into the cavity from the bottom, eliminating the need for a turntable, which is prone to break or disappear.
Let me show you how it works. Manual operation modes give the operator the freedom to use pre-programmed pads or the time entry keypad indicated, by the clock symbol, to enter our cook time. The power level keys are located above the time entry keypad. These pads allow the operator to adjust how much microwave energy is used during a cook cycle. Certain food items, like instant oatmeal, may require less microwave energy to cook properly, and the 20 percent keypad is the appropriate setting to defrost most frozen foods.
Another handy feature is the times 2 pad. Use this pad when cooking 2 of the same items at once. The microwave calculates the proper time and power level. The RMS series ships from the factory with pre-programmed times assigned to each number pad. For instance, the number 3 pad is set to cook for 30 seconds, but this can be changed. If you have an item that you cook many times a day, programming mode allows you to begin the cooking cycle with one touch of a button, saving time and energy. The user can assign customized cook times, power levels, and up to 3 cooking stages to each number key.
Open the door. Notice that the fan and cavity light operate every time the door is opened. Don't worry, this doesn't mean the oven is cooking. There is no microwave energy in the oven cavity until the door is shut and a program is selected. The fan turns on to ensure oven components are cooled during every cook cycle.
Back to programming. Press the number 1 key pad for 5 seconds. The buzzer sounds once to indicate programming mode is activated and the display reads PROG. Press the number key to reprogram. In this case, number 3. The display will show the current cook time of 30 seconds. Select the time entry pad and enter the new time. Use the 20 percent, 50 percent, 70 percent, or 100 percent key pads to input power level. Some applications may require stage cooking as well. The RMS touch pad can be programmed to accept up to 3 cooking stages.
Let's use a frozen burrito as an example. The burrito needs to defrost first, and then cooked at a higher power level. Rather than entering the cook time and power level manually and waiting for the oven to finish the first cycle before entering the time and power level for the second cycle, it can all be done with the push of 1 button. This frees the operator to focus on other tasks while the burrito completely cooks. While in programming mode, select the time entry keypad and enter desired cook time and power level. First, I enter 1 minute and 50 percent power level to start melting the burrito. In the next stage, I enter 45 seconds at 100 percent power to completely cook the burrito. For the last stage, I enter 30 seconds at 70 percent power to finish cooking without drying the tortilla. Now the keypad is properly programmed. Every time I need to cook a burrito, I simply select that key pad and the RMS will let me know when it's ready to serve!
To complete my breakfast, I'll show you how fast and easy it is to prepare instant oatmeal in the RMS10T. These are common breakfast items at convenience stores, as well as hotel buffets. Mix the oatmeal and water in a microwave-safe container, like this ceramic bowl, and place it in the RMS. Press the pre-programmed button, and in 2 minutes I have a steaming bowl of oatmeal. Because I programmed stages that don't use 100 percent microwave power, the oatmeal doesn't boil over the sides of the bowl while cooking. The RMS is versatile in commercial settings all day long, not just at breakfast.
