This is a nifty tool to have for home use - every year pies at Thanksgiving would be mutilated by well meaning guests trying to help. I can now use this to 'score' the top of pies and cakes and those same guests can follow the lines to cut even slices.

We've been using this cake marker for years and it has held up well. Very sturdy. I do wish it were a little more "foolproof" with maybe color coding or something so that it was really obvious which side needs to face up in order for you to get 10 or 12 slices, depending on what you want. It does have an imprint to tell you which side is which but it's not so easy to read. Sometimes our staff do it one way, and realize it was wrong, and then they do it the other way. But you can also just hold it up and count before you do it.

I make tall cakes of three or four fat, 9" layers, typically, so portioning them into 14 or 16 slices still ensures a generous serving. The only marker I could find in a local store was flimsy, and only marked twelve slices. I'm pleased that I scored this great deal.
