This was a replacement for a cheaper model that only lasted a year- just after the warranty expired. I like the timer feature that shuts the unit off when it goes off.

It's really a terrific product. The price is right, and it has a solid feel and heats a large pot of water quickly. This is an 1800 watt unit, so be prepared to have a circuit pretty much dedicated to it (15 amps). The controls are simple. NOTE: I have to admit that I have had two of these fail under warranty. One stopped functioning after 6 months, and one was shipped dead-on-arrival. I would complain about this, except that the Globe warranty folks are so quick and awesome, that I hesitate to even call this a problem. You call them directly, they email you a PDF form in 5 minutes, you fill it out and email it back along with a photo of the receipt and a photo of the unit with the line cord cut, and they ship another to you the same day. Piece of cake - no return shipping. I suspect that both problems were manufacturing-related because my units that did not fail early on have all lasted a long time. I expect I just had bad luck.
