BASIC OVERVIEW

The Safety Manager is responsible for a variety of safety duties, including overseeing day-to-day service and repairs, capital improvements, and ensuring a safe workplace for all employees. This position maintains extensive knowledge of the various operations protocols and identifies areas for improved efficiencies while maintaining Company safety policies. The Safety Manager supervises all Safety employees.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Operational

  • Implement and sustain company–wide strategy to support EHS Management System, programs, goals at assigned facilities.
  • Manage EHS risk through proactive analysis and use of injury prevention tools. Partner with assigned facility to create/maintain written injury prevention plans necessary to drive improvements
  • Assist with the development and administration of companywide EHS initiatives, programs, and training as requested.
  • Lead Incident Investigation efforts ensuring root cause and sustainable corrective action is identified.
  • Maintain, develop, and update safety training programs, policies, and procedures. Provide training to employees and maintain records.
  • Ensure that all work is performed according to facility safety policies, regulatory guidelines, and best practices
  • Complete regular inspections to ensure a hazard-free workplace and OSHA compliance (including other regulatory agencies, such as DOT, FDA, NFPA, etc.)
  • Complete safety audits to ensure practices and procedures are relevant and up to date
  • Provide guidance to management on matters relating to safety
  • Lead and coordinate meetings and projects with warehouse safety committee
  • Maintain high employee engagement and build a positive employee safety culture
  • Oversee environmental programs; including but not limited to Hazardous waste, Stormwater, Tier 2 Reporting

People

  • Ensure the timely completion of all employee performance reviews and provide frequent and constructive feedback to all team members in accordance with the Great Employees Only philosophy
  • Interact with employees regularly to promote a high level of engagement and ensure all safety regulations are followed
  • Promptly complete all admin duties relating to employee management to the expected standard

Leadership

  • Collaborate with the leadership team within the building to meet the needs of the DC and foster a team mentality
  • Communicates effectively and partners with the DCGM and Leadership team at the assignee DC
  • Creates development plans for employees to generate engagement and a leadership bench, with a focus on Team Leaders
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and honesty, embodying the core values of the company and modeling them for our employees
  • Serve as a leader not only for the assigned department, but for the entire distribution center, holding peers, managers and employees accountable to expectations

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • The ideal candidate will have the following credentials or a combination of education and experience in relevant working environment:
  • Bachelors or graduate degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent degree preferred but not required
  • 1-3 years working in safety management or related field
  • Forklift certification preferred 
  • Knowledge of general safety and OSHA regulations; OSHA 30-hour certification preferred

  • Ability to work off-shift as required to respond to urgent needs   
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to quickly adapt as business needs change; ability to address difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence 
  • Customer service-oriented attitude with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations 
  • Ability to work at elevations of up to 40 feet 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day  
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing  
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations  
  • Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching  
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift / carry 50-75lbs. and push / pull up to 150lbs.
