Job Description

Job Summary

A non-CDL Driver responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers and containers within the yard, ensuring timely positioning for loading and unloading operations. This role requires strong attention to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This position also supports other warehouse departments by performing various receiving and material handling duties in the warehouse, including operating forklift equipment.

Responsibilities

· Safely operate yard trucks to move trailers and containers to and from loading docks and staging areas

· Ensure trailers are correctly positioned and chocked at docks for loading and unloading

· Maintain an organized yard by strategically placing trailers and containers

· Assist warehouse staff in aligning trailers for efficient loading and unloading

· Inspect trailers for cleanliness, damage, and readiness for use, reporting any issues to management

· Communicate effectively with drivers, warehouse staff, and management to coordinate trailer movements

· Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on yard trucks and report any maintenance needs

· Maintain product knowledge and awareness of daily operational needs

· Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries

· Ensure compliance with company policies, as well as federal and state DOT regulations

· Report any incidents, damages, or safety concerns to leadership

· Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives

· Meet all expected performance standards regarding efficiency, accuracy and quality of work

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following all safety guidelines and reporting any hazards to the appropriate leadership.

· Work closely with team members and leadership to meet daily, weekly, and monthly departmental goals

· Abide by all company and warehouse policies

· Flex into other positions and departments and undertake additional duties as necessary to support the

overall operation

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Occasional activities may involve exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal.

Qualifications

Experience

· 1 year of relevant experience in a distribution environment preferred but not required

· Class C driver’s license with acceptable driving record and at least 2 years of driving experience

Education

· High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Traits

· Knowledge of DOT regulations

· Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical and complex concepts in a simple and concise way to ensure ease of understanding

· Must be able to communicate effectively with distribution center managers and delivery location staff

· Must be willing to drive in all weather conditions

· Must be able to drive manual transmission

· Ability to quickly adapt as business needs change; ability to address difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
